    Title I


    Mingo County Schools encourages assistance from parents, guardians and community members as volunteers in their schools. Volunteers are adults who assist teachers, administrators, or other staff with activities/events during the school year.

    Mingo County Schools requires a background check on all volunteers who have contact with students on a regularly scheduled basis. Community members who participate in one-time activities under the direct supervision of Mingo County Schools employees (i.e., guest readers, guest speakers, etc.) or are spectators at school events are not considered volunteers and are thus not required to submit to a background check.

    Background checks are not required annually after a volunteer has passed the initial screening, but we reserve the right to require an additional screening if we have reasonable cause to believe that a volunteer has failed to disclose a criminal incident.

    Those who have been convicted of or plead guilty to a drug offenses within the past 5 years; sexual offenses; offenses against minors; deadly weapon offenses; violent, abusive, threatening, or harassment offenses; or any felony offenses shall not be used as volunteers. This includes any findings of maltreatment thru child protective services or adult protective services within the scope of West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources.

    Please submit the volunteer application along with a copy of your driver’s license or state issued ID. You must provide a valid email address to complete the background check. You will receive an email that will guide you through the next part of the application process. A non-refundable fee of $20 is required for the background check, payable directly to our screening service. All background check information is confidential and will not be released. Volunteers will be notified when they are clear to volunteer.

    Kindergarten Transition

    Kindergarten orientation will be conducted during March for all children entering Kindergarten for the first time in the fall of 2015. More information is available Universal Pre-K Survey
